Strike 3 Appoints Timothy C. Tyson to Board of Directors

Trumbull, Connecticut, January 7, 2011 – The Strike 3 Foundation a charitable organization that mobilizes support, heightens awareness, and raises funding for pediatric cancer research, today, announced the appointment of Timothy C. Tyson to its Board of Directors.

"The expansion of Strike 3’s Board of Directors to include Tim ensures that this organization will be infused with new ideas and opinions. Tim brings a unique perspective and relevant experience to our Board," said Craig Breslow, Chief Executive Officer, Strike 3 Foundation.

The Smallest With the Biggest Impression

Craig Breslow is a 30-year-old left-handed relief pitcher for the Oakland Athletics by way of the Milwaukee Brewers, San Diego Padres, Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins. And let’s not forget New Jersey of the independent Northeast League.

He is the first pitcher in the Major Leagues from Yale since Ron Darling, now of television fame and the first from Yale with a major in molecular biophysics and biochemistry, just like countless others in the Major Leagues. More …

Strike 3 Foundation adopts Valentin’s mission

As the bag of chemotherapy medicine dripped slowly into Isaias Valentin’s arm, Craig Breslow sat next to the bed in Yale-New Haven Hospital. Isaias had already been given an Oakland A’s baseball cap and some other cool baseball stuff as mementos of the visit when Breslow suddenly pulled out the big gun.

Breslow ’02 Continues Giving Back with Strike 3 Foundation Annual

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Former Yale Bulldog and current Oakland Athletic Craig Breslow ‘02 will be back in Connecticut Nov. 13 for the third annual First Pitch Celebrity Gala to support his Strike 3 Foundation for pediatric cancer research. Breslow, a member of the Yale baseball team from 1999-2002, has enjoyed tremendous success in the major leagues as Yale’s first big leaguer since Ron Darling ‘82. Yet, as his foundation’s work demonstrates, it was the off-the-field lessons Breslow learned as a Bulldog — not just those learned on it — that have stuck with him since he has left New Haven. A national committee has just released a list of 10 finalists, one of whom will go on to receive the award and visit the award host organization, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, in January 2011. Strike 3 Foundation helps pediatric program

Craig Breslow, a relief pitcher for the Oakland Athletics and a Yale University graduate, founder of the Strike 3 Foundation, was selected as a finalist for the Roberto Clemente Award, presented to a player whose commitment to the community sets him apart. Breslow’s Strike 3 Foundation, inspired by his sister Lesley’s frightening bout and surviving from pediatric thyroid cancer at a young age, raises money to help battle the disease, including a goal of raising half a million dollars for the Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Program.

The foundation’s third annual First Pitch Celebrity Gala, benefitting pediatric research, will be held on Nov. 13 at the Stamford Hilton. More …

Yale grad Breslow rated TSN’s smartest athlete

The Sporting News recently ranked the Top 20 Smartest Athletes, and A’s reliever Craig Breslow landed in the top spot.

A 2009 Wall Street Journal story had dubbed Breslow the "smartest man in baseball," but this latest ranking is an even bigger feather in his academic cap. More …

Craig Breslow to Receive Dave Stewart Community Service Award

Oakland A’s pitcher Craig Breslow has been named the recipient of the 2010 Dave Stewart Community Service Award, which is given annually to an A’s player in recognition of charitable contributions throughout Northern California and across the nation.

Dave Stewart will present Breslow with the award prior to Wednesday’s 12:35 pm game against the Chicago White Sox in a special on-field ceremony at 12:52 pm. Over the past year, Breslow has raised close to $150,000 for childhood cancer research and education through fundraising events associated with his “Strike 3 Foundation.” These fundraising events include the foundation’s annual First Pitch Gala held each year in Connecticut, a number of smaller networking events during the off-season, a wine tasting art event in San Francisco in July, a blackjack fundraiser in the Bay Area in August and a luncheon at Yankee Stadium this past month. In addition, 10% of the proceeds from the A’s 2010 Community Fund Golf Classic were donated to the Strike 3 Foundation. Read the full story here »
