Breslow to host luncheon at Yankee Stadium

Craig Breslow and his fight to aid pediatric cancer research will soon take over Yankee Stadium, where the A’s reliever will host an intimate charity luncheon at the park’s NYY Steak restaurant in September.

Breslow, influenced by his older sister’s successful battle with thyroid cancer as a child, founded the Strike 3 Foundation in 2008 in an effort to do his part to support and raise funds for childhood cancer research. Read the full story here »

Breslow comes up aces

CHICAGO – Craig Breslow was a wanted man at the trade deadline, with more than a few teams calling about the left-handed reliever.

"It’s better to be in this position than the guy who’s getting waived or released," Breslow said with a grin. The A’s picked him up on waivers from the Twins last season. More …

An Exclusive Interview with Craig Breslow

I chatted with A’s lefty Craig Breslow Thursday morning by phone, in a 25-minute interview I have broken into three parts. Part I focuses largely on Craig Breslow’s Strike 3 Foundation and the Blackjack charity event in San Francisco Wednesday night, August 4th. Part II will focus on more personal aspects of Breslow’s family history with pediatric cancer and his experience doing charity work in the community, and in Part III, we talk baseball.

PART I

Nico: So just to start off I wanted to give you a chance to talk about: What do you most want fans to know about pediatric cancer, the "Strike 3 foundation," and the event coming up?

Breslow: OK, so I guess the salient points are that I started the Strike 3 Foundation about two years ago in 2008 and at the time I was pretty deeply rooted in Connecticut, I was playing for the Red Sox at the time, I had gone to school in Connecticut, and felt like it was a good time for me to do something in the community to give back. Thinking man’s game

The Wall Street Journal once labeled him "the smartest man in baseball, if not the entire world," and the presence of a degree in molecular biophysics and biochemistry from Yale University would appear to support the claim.

Craig Breslow chuckles at the moniker that has stuck with him through eight seasons of professional baseball. But the Trumbull, Conn., native certainly was smart enough to realize his future on the diamond was in serious question when the Milwaukee Brewers, who had picked him in the 26th round of the 2002 draft, unceremoniously released him two years later during the 2004 season. A’s lefty hosts event to raise money for cancer research

OAKLAND — Labeled last June by no less of an authority than the Wall Street Journal as "the smartest man in baseball, if not the entire world," A’s left-hander Craig Breslow gets a lot of attention in the clubhouse for his academic pedigree.

A 29-year-old reliever who went 8-7 with a 3.36 ERA, 15 holds and a 1.11 WHIP over 77 appearances in 2009, Breslow graduated from Yale in 2002 with a degree in molecular biophysics and biochemistry. Read the full story here »
