Strike 3 Foundation Completes Commitment to Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital

Monroe, CT, January 10, 2014 – The Strike 3 Foundation announced that it has completed its five year cumulative gift to Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital. The organization, founded by Boston Red Sox Pitcher Craig Breslow in 2008, heightens awareness, mobilizes support, and raises funding for pediatric cancer research. The agreement, made in 2008, spanned five years and totaled $500,000. Funds were used to found a Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplantation Program, the first of its kind in Connecticut.

Executive Director of Strike 3 Craig Breslow explained “the honoring of this pledge, in its entirety, represents a watershed moment for our organization. In 2008, we committed $500,000 when our assets totaled only about $60,000. We set the bar high, and forced ourselves to expand our breadth and increase our fund raising capacity in order to honor this commitment. With much appreciation to our ever-growing donor base, we have been able to meet our pledge to Yale, and maintain funding to various other programs concurrently. While this brings to a close the 5 year commitment we made to Yale, it does not end our partnership. Strike 3 owes a particular debt of gratitude to our most loyal supporters: E*Trade, J2 Design, The Red Sox Foundation, Aptuit, Covidien, ICAP, and the Arizona Diamondbacks.”

Dr. Gary Kupfer, clinical program leader in pediatric oncology and hematology, and section chief noted, “support from the Strike 3 Foundation has been instrumental in establishment of the only pediatric stem cell transplant program in the state of Connecticut. Families no longer have to travel out of our region, but rather can receive live saving therapy, psychosocial care, and ongoing support, all within a newly renovated, state of the art facility. The Yale Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Program is so thankful for the extraordinary efforts of Strike 3 for their part in the performance of acts healing the world.”
