Strike 3 Foundation Receives Grant from World Series Champion Boston Red Sox

Monroe, CT, February, 2014 – The Strike 3 Foundation announced that it has received a monetary award from the Boston Red Sox, 2013 World Series Champions. The organization, founded by Boston Red Sox Pitcher Craig Breslow in 2008, heightens awareness, mobilizes support, and raises funding for pediatric cancer research.

Postseason earnings are awarded as a portion of revenue generated by ticket sales and distributed equitably among players as shares. There is no other postseason income awarded. Players voted to donate a single share, over $300,000, to charity, to be divided among causes near to them.

Executive Director of Strike 3 Craig Breslow explained, “Strike 3 is greatly appreciative of the generosity of the Boston Red Sox players. Donating a playoff share to charity is yet another example of the character and humility of this unique group. Through the charity share, the players were able to have great impact on causes that are important to them. The decision to forgo potential earnings in favor of charitable giving is a special decision by a special team.”

Kelly Breslow, Director of Business Development and Operations for Strike 3 echoed the executive director’s sentiments, “On behalf of the Strike 3 Foundation and the causes we support, I’d like to extend a most sincere thank you to the players of the 2013 Boston Red Sox. The gift we received as a result of their generosity will enhance our capacity to help those we serve. We look for 2014 to be a banner year for Strike 3, and this gift is a compelling first step.”
