Children's Hospital, Oakland
With funding from the Strike 3 Foundation, the Psychology Oncology Program at Children's Hospital & Research Center Oakland launched two new support programs to help teenage patients and their siblings cope with a cancer diagnosis, treatment, and beyond.
Teen Cancer Support Group: This support group serves as a lifeline for 30 teen cancer patients and survivors during treatment and throughout the healing journey. The group, tailored to young people ages 13-21, meets twice per month at Children's Hospital & Research Center Oakland.
Siblings Program: This program enables siblings of cancer patients and survivors to meet and share their experiences. The goal is to allow these siblings to build mutually supportive relationships with others who are facing similar circumstances. The program hosts quarterly outings for participants and an annual "Siblings Unite" event, which bring together all siblings for a day filled with fun activities. An estimated 50 siblings will benefit from participating in the Siblings Program.
