Message From Craig Program Guidelines 2014 Winning Project

Dear Play it Forward Participants,

We would like to thank everyone who participated in the "Play it Forward" program which began in September 2013. We are overwhelmed by the support and dedication of people of all ages to our cause. We never imagined that "Play it Forward" would result in engaging over 1,000 students across New England and beyond. Each of the projects submitted were impressive and choosing a winner was difficult.

We are very excited to announce that the winner of the 2013-2014 "Play it Forward" campaign is Maxwell Surprenant. Congratulations Maxwell! Maxwell's passion for helping others is clear; he completed 3 projects that made a positive impact in the lives of children fighting cancer.

Maxwell's first project was the Kids Comedy and Magic Night at the Blue Bunny Bookstore in Dedham, MA, in February 2014. Max organized the event, which raised $700, but didn't stop there. Maxwell made sure that the event had an even further impact by encouraging kids to make cards and write funny stories at the event, which will be made into a book to be placed in waiting rooms at hospitals to spread cheer.

The second project was called "1000 Birthday Cards for Bennett". Maxwell met Bennett, also 10, while singing in the Jimmy Fund Choir. Bennett has been battling cancer for over 2 years and Maxwell wanted to help make a positive difference in his life. In preparation for Bennett's birthday, Maxwell reached out to everyone he could think of with the goal of collecting 1000 birthday cards. Maxwell far exceeded his goal and was able to collect over 2,500 cards, with more continually arriving from around the world.

For Maxwell's 3rd project, he was able to persuade his school to donate the proceeds from an annual basketball shootout to the Jimmy Fund. The event raised over $12,000 for the Jimmy Fund.

As the winner, Maxwell will attend a Boston Red Sox game as our personal guest at Fenway Park, watch batting practice from the warning track, participate in an on-field meet and greet with us, and accompany us on a visit to a local Boston children's hospital.

We look forward to continuing the "Play it Forward" program in the Fall of 2014 and seeing next year's projects!

Thank you again to all of our amazing participants!
